The main objective of the course was to use a selection of modern topics in science and applied science to increase communication and critical thinking.Debate was a natural fit for the course because the topic were level(p) to current events, and students were allowed to critically analyze a controversial topic while practicing other competencies like writing, presenting information and higher level thinking (Scott, S. 2009). Writing an argumentative essay also helps to improve conceptual understanding, as you have to put yourself in not only the shoes of your opponent but the shoes of your audience as well.This means anticipating each questions or concerns they might express and addressing them, it also gives you the opportunity to refute any arguments your opponent may have.
