I have no voice, but I must scream The controversy behind animals as research subjects is mainly one of morals and the ethical treatment of said animals. Many people believe we should use them in this way, so we aren t actually harming people in the pursuit for better things for humans. Though animal testing was a viable resource for many years, it has proven to be extremely controversial and unethical, therefor the use of animals as research subjects should be outlawed. There is always a flip side to every coin, and the opposing side of this argument is that these animals can be used in ways that can prove to be beneficial to humans, without harming humans. A study done with pigeons shows just how very similar we are to these birds, which makes them excellent test subjects as stand in humans. â€Å"But it is not just that bird brains do something similar to ours. They also do it in the same way. Down to the neurological level, what the cells are doing seems to be the same, says Co lombo -- even though the respective regions in humans and birds are thought to have evolved separately. † Weir, 2014. Having the ability to test certain scenarios on these birds will give researchers better understanding of how a person would react to a similar, is not exactly the same, situation. This makes testing of a lot of things technically â€Å"safer† because they aren t actually using people, and cant put any sort of damage on a human if the test goes wrong.
